Workbench
What Iīm working on these days is the general for my new Chaos Nurgle army. Actually, Iīm not quite sure I will do an army, it all depends on how it goes with this big, bad boy!
Here Iīve been
experimenting with claws from the Tyranid Hive Tyrant.
At first I thought they would be overpowering, but after some
deliberation Iīve come to the conclusion that he can handle it :-) I also filed
away most of the armour-detail, as I didnīt think it would be in the Nurgle
athmos, so to speak. Have also added some extra entrails, as well as Green stuff
to make claws-to-body mesh more naturally.
Well, after hunting through my bit-box and not finding any weapon mighty enough for this guy, I finally decided to make my own! I found some ideas in Hordes of Chaos, and started cutting. I must say Iīm rather pleased with the result, although it looks a bit too big, with some detail etc. on the axe-head I think it will be just what he needed.
And after seeing the wings I noticed
they had scales on them. My first thought was to cut them away, as they didnīt
fit with the rest of the model. But then I had the idea to make him a bit more
scaley, that could make him Nurglish (in my opinion, at least), it would not be
too hard, and whatīs more, I could carry it on to the rest of the army! Hey,
presto! by accident I had fallen down on a solution to make the army look
coherent, visually.
A few new additions. More scales mostly, to the face and the right
arm. Iīm trying out a braid in his head, although this has yet to be finished
and approved! Need some more time to think about whether itīs a good idea or
not.
Here he is, after a lot of additional work. As you can see the major change is his head. At first I only wanted to make the horns a bit different, but ended up with this... The only thing that remains of the original is the nose and the eyes, and theyīre so small you canīt even see it, right? The style reminds me a bit of a Predator - you know, from the movies - not too bad, even if I say so myself.
The axe has also been added to, and heīs getting VERY spiky, but thatīs all right. I have yet to finish some details, i.e. scales, chains, some pus-filled blisters, the axe, and of course the big claws in front. Then I will do the wings and the base, and I hope that I will be able to finish him in the next few days.
All in all Iīm pretty happy with the job Iīve done so far, and heīll be a good center-piece in my Nurgle army.
Well, well. Although Iīm not quite finished, I
just need a breather!
Heīs about 95% done, just a few minor fixes to do. Some more detail on the base
and a few little mistakes.
This has been my biggest conversion work to date, some things came out fine,
others didnīt.
The axe is a huge instrument of death... Itīs too big, I admit, but I wouldnīt
have missed the chance to try out my fledgling sculpting talents in making a
spine-thingie on the axe. I didnīt think I could carry it out, but I was
surprised (and pleased) with the outcome.
The painting is mostly ok, although some day I want to come back and do the
flesh in some other colour, I just couldnīt find a satisfactory skin-tone. Ah,
well...
As you can see heīs gone through a lot of changes. Heīs not of Golden Daemon quality, but I did learn a lot in the process of making him. Now, at least, I have a really big imposing center model in my new army! All I have to do now is to paint the rest of the army! :-)
